STORM RECOVERY UPDATE — TOWN OF DYER

The Town of Dyer remains actively engaged in recovery efforts following the recent storm. Public Works employees, emergency personnel, contractors, utility crews, volunteers, and community partners continue working throughout our community. We appreciate our residents’ continued patience and cooperation.

IMPORTANT: STORM DEBRIS PICKUP DEADLINE

Residents should place all remaining storm-related tree limbs and debris at the curb as soon as possible.

Additional contracted assistance for storm-debris pickup will conclude on Friday, September 4. Please ensure your storm-related debris is at the curb before then so crews have the best opportunity to collect it while these additional resources remain available.

Keep all piles clear of parked vehicles, fire hydrants, electrical boxes, and other obstructions so large equipment can safely access them.

NORMAL PUBLIC WORKS HOURS

Dyer Public Works now operates under the normal hours.

Dyer Public Works — 516 Edmond Drive

Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM

Saturday–Sunday: Closed

Residents and contractors may also bring storm-related tree limbs to the designated drop-off area at Public Works during regular hours.

RESIDENT DUMPSTERS

Dumpsters remain available for Dyer residents only at the following locations:

Dyer Public Works — 516 Edmond Drive

A separate container is available for spoiled food. Open during regular operating hours.

Pheasant Hills Park — 2301 Nondorf Street

Located on the north side of the pond and available dawn to dusk.

Northgate Park — off Calumet Avenue

Available dawn to dusk.

The dumpsters at Pheasant Hills Park and Northgate Park will be removed Friday, September 4th.

Please place all permitted items completely inside the dumpsters and help keep these locations clean and safe. Do not place tree limbs or yard debris in the dumpsters.

FEMA DISASTER ASSISTANCE

Lake County residents affected by the storm may apply for federal disaster assistance and review available recovery resources through FEMA.

FEMA Helpline: 1-800-621-3362

Eligibility is determined by FEMA. This federal assistance program is not administered by the Town of Dyer.

GOSERV GLOBAL CLEANUP ASSISTANCE

GoServ Global volunteers are assisting Dyer residents who need additional hands-on help with storm cleanup, including downed trees, branches, debris, and storm-damaged property.

Town of Dyer Declares Local Disaster Emergency

The Town of Dyer has declared a Local Disaster Emergency following the severe August 11 storm that caused widespread power outages, flooding, downed trees and infrastructure damage.

The declaration allows the Town to access additional resources, coordinate assistance and take necessary actions to support emergency response and recovery.

Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel while crews continue restoration and cleanup efforts. For emergencies, call 911.

The Town will continue to provide updates as recovery efforts progress.

    Position(s):                  Laborer - Infrastructure

    Location:                      Department of Public Works

    Type:                            Full-Time (Weekdays, 7:00am until 3:00pm), 40 hours per week

                   May be required to work additional hours

    Rate of Pay:                 $22.73 to $31.38 per hour based on previous experience

    The Department of Public Works is currently accepting applications for a full-time position that will work within the infrastructure division.

    Laborer – Infrastructure includes, but are not limited to:

    • Cleans and maintains underground utilities, such as water, stormwater, sewers, and fire hydrants.
    • Assist with the essential duties and responsibilities within streets, building services and treatment plant divisions when necessary.
    • Inspects the condition of water, sanitary, and stormwater lines and determines if alterations or repairs are needed and corrects the problem, as needed.
    • Performs basic maintenance tasks to assist personnel, e.g., construction and repair of water, sanitary, and stormwater lines, in order to prevent major breakdowns and delays.
    • Performs landscaping work for road projects or site repair of utility lines.
    • Assists in the construction operations by raising manhole covers.
    • Assists the Street Division with leaf and snow removal, and salting of roads as required.
    • Manages preventative and regular maintenance of all town-owned equipment and vehicles within the infrastructure division.
    • Completes administrative duties to include: attending meetings, answering inquiries, etc., as needed.
    • Communicates with and between all town offices/departments, and other employees within the department, and the Infrastructure Foreman, as needed.
    • Attends all meetings, conferences, training sessions, etc., as required by the Director of Public Works.

    The Town of Dyer is accepting applications for the following positions:

    • Plan Commission – Applicant must have a Democratic or Independent political affiliation. Meets the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:00PM.

    • Park Board – Applicant must have a Democratic or Independent political affiliation. Meets the 1st Thursday of each month at 6:00PM.

    • Shared Ethics Advisory Commission – We are also seeking a Dyer resident to serve as the Town's representative on the Shared Ethics Advisory Commission, which promotes ethics awareness and training for local municipalities throughout Northwest Indiana.     Political affiliation requirements are established in accordance with Indiana Code 36-1-8-10 to ensure balanced representation on certain boards and commissions.

    🐾 Pet Owners Reminder 🐾

    As we enjoy walking our pets throughout the community, please remember to follow the Town of Dyer's Animal Waste Ordinance.

    Many children and families use our parks, trails, and green spaces for recreation and play. Recently, the amount of pet waste being left behind has increased and has become a concern for residents and park users.

    Please do your part by cleaning up after your pets and properly disposing of waste. Together, we can help keep our parks, sidewalks, and public spaces clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

    Town of Dyer Animal Waste Ordinance (Sec. 6-86):
    The owner of every animal is responsible for removing any waste deposited by their animal on public walks, recreation areas, or private property.
