The Department of Public Works will kick off leaf pick-up in October.

Leaf removal services are currently being addressed. Leaves need to be placed in the parkway being careful to keep them off the street and away from the fire hydrants, sidewalks and street drains. Please make sure only leaves are placed in the pile as anything else may cause damage to the equipment and operators. Branch and limb pickup has been suspended during this time and will resume on December 9th.

Benefits of Recycling

Recycling Saves Resources and Creates Jobs

Recycling is an important economic driver, as it helps create jobs and tax revenues. The Recycling Economic Information (REI) Report found that, in a single year, recycling and reuse activities in the United States accounted for 757,000 jobs, $36.6 billion in wages and $6.7 billion in tax revenues. This equates to 1.57 jobs, $76,000 in wages and $14,101 in tax revenues for every 1,000 tons of material recycled.

Environmental, economic and community benefits can be attained from recycling.

For the environment, recycling:

• Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators.
• Conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals.
• Prevents pollution and reduces greenhouse gases by reducing the need to mine and process new raw materials.

For the economy, recycling:

• Increases economic security by tapping a domestic source of materials.
• Saves energy.

For communities, recycling:

• Supports American manufacturing and conserves valuable resources.
• Helps create jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries in the United States.

Sec. 6-97 Use and Discharge Guidelines:

(a) Age Restriction: Individuals under eighteen (18) years old are prohibited from purchasing consumer fireworks and Section 8(a) fireworks.

(b) Minor Possession: Children can only handle fireworks in the presence of an adult.

(c) Usage Locations: Consumer fireworks are allowed to be used solely on:

The user's property; or Property where the owner has consented to fireworks use.

(e) Time Restrictions: Consumer fireworks and Section 6-95(a) fireworks can be used on specific days without a special permit, as follows:

Between 5:00 p.m. and two (2) hours after sunset on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, July 5, July 6, July 7, July 8, and July 9.

Between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight on July 4.

Between 10:00 a.m. on December 31 and 1:00 a.m. on January 1.

(f) Special Permit Requirement: Individuals wishing to discharge fireworks outside the designated times must request and secure a special permit.
