2026 Branch and Leaf Removal Schedule

The Department of Public Works has started leaf removal services. Please ensure that leaves are placed in the parkway only and keep them off the street and away from fire hydrants, sidewalks, and street drains. It's important to only include leaves in the pile, as any other items could potentially damage the equipment and the operators.

Any questions regarding solid waste removal can be addressed by contacting the Department of Public Works.

Monon Corridor Project Information (Formerly West Lake Corridor Project)

The Monon Corridor (West Lake Corridor Project) is a new, 8-mile southern extension off the South Shore Line Railroad’s main Lakeshore Corridor that is currently under construction. It runs from north Hammond southward to its terminus at Munster/Dyer Station. The new extension is called the Monon Corridor, and the existing South Shore Line main line is called the Lakeshore Corridor.

Branch and Leaf Pickup Information

The Department of Public Works will begin branch removal for the season on March 17th. Limbs need to be placed in the parkway between the curb and sidewalk. Limbs should not be placed in the street, nor should they be placed on the sidewalk or around a fire hydrant. The branch pile needs to be stacked neatly at the curb with the cut end pointing toward the street or, if they are too long, place them in the parkway with the cut end of the limbs pointing in the flow of traffic. Do not put anything else in the limb pile as this may cause serious damage to the equipment or the operators of the machine. Also, smaller piles of limbs and branches may be placed in your garbage can. Please make sure you only put bare limbs in the garbage can, as leaves create a greater fire hazard inside of the garbage truck.

Spring Clean-Up will be from April 7th through the 18th (2 weeks). During this time frame, leaves will be picked up and additional dumpsters will be at the Public Works complex for residential use. The leaves need to be placed in the parkway and kept off the streets and away from fire hydrants, storm water drains, and off the sidewalks. Please do not place limbs, rocks, bricks, or any other materials in the leaf pile. The additional dumpsters will be available during normal business hours 7am-3pm and on Saturday, April 12th from 7:00am to 12:00pm.
