STORM RECOVERY UPDATE: PARKWAY STUMP REMOVAL

STORM RECOVERY UPDATE: PARKWAY STUMP REMOVAL

Stump removal is underway for trees removed from public parkways following the August 11 storm. Stumps in front or back yards are NOT a part of this project. Because stump grinding requires different equipment, the crew may arrive after tree and limb removal has finished in your neighborhood.

Think a parkway stump was missed? Contact Dyer Public Works at 219-865-4222 or dpw@townofdyer.com with your address and the stump’s location so staff can check the work list.

We’ll share more information about restoring the areas where stumps are removed and any plans for replacement trees as those details are confirmed. If a standing parkway tree is leaning, damaged, or lifting a sidewalk, please report its location to Public Works for review.

Thank you for your patience as storm recovery continues.

    Branch and Leaf Pickup Information

The Department of Public Works will begin branch removal for the season on March 17th. Limbs need to be placed in the parkway between the curb and sidewalk. Limbs should not be placed in the street, nor should they be placed on the sidewalk or around a fire hydrant. The branch pile needs to be stacked neatly at the curb with the cut end pointing toward the street or, if they are too long, place them in the parkway with the cut end of the limbs pointing in the flow of traffic. Do not put anything else in the limb pile as this may cause serious damage to the equipment or the operators of the machine. Also, smaller piles of limbs and branches may be placed in your garbage can. Please make sure you only put bare limbs in the garbage can, as leaves create a greater fire hazard inside of the garbage truck.

Spring Clean-Up will be from April 7th through the 18th (2 weeks). During this time frame, leaves will be picked up and additional dumpsters will be at the Public Works complex for residential use. The leaves need to be placed in the parkway and kept off the streets and away from fire hydrants, storm water drains, and off the sidewalks. Please do not place limbs, rocks, bricks, or any other materials in the leaf pile. The additional dumpsters will be available during normal business hours 7am-3pm and on Saturday, April 12th from 7:00am to 12:00pm.
