The Town of Dyer has developed a new Comprehensive Plan. The purpose was to create one cohesive plan that would guide future development and infrastructure investments while consolidating the following past plans:

• 2012 Comprehensive Plan
• 2009 Sheffield Avenue Corridor Plan
• 2013 Calumet Avenue Corridor Plan
• 2013 US 30 Corridor Plan

The Town conducted regular monthly Steering Committee meetings, working meetings with staff, web outreach, and two public forums that allowed the community of Dyer to be actively involved in shaping the plan.

The speed limit on Calumet Avenue in the Town of Dyer will be lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph from Main Street to US Rt. 30. This area has seen an increase in commercial development as well as an expansion of activity at Central Park.  The new reduced speed limit of 35 mph is consistent with the posted speed limit for the contiguous portion of Calumet Avenue to the north. This decision was made for the safety of drivers and pedestrians within the town and was made in a collaborative effort with engineers, public safety officials and the Town of Dyer.

Notices will be posted beginning on September 13^th warning drivers of the reduced speed limit and will continue through the weekend. Beginning September 20^th, the new reduced speed limit of 35 mph will be enforced.

The upcoming Munster Dyer Main Street Train Station will provide a multitude of opportunities for the Town of Dyer.
