The Hart Ditch 2-Stage Project has brought many questions to us here at the Town Hall. The primary purpose of this project is to more effectively transport sediment and other contaminants using the natural aquatic process with the secondary purpose being for drainage. The hundreds of noticeable white sleeves along the bank are the plantings which will overtime, consume that area for erosion control. The sleeves will be removed within the next few weeks. The trees that were removed have been utilized for the bank stabilization of the ditch using the roots and the trunks for erosion control. In addition, brand-new black walnut benches from the trees that were taken down, will be along the walking path near the project as well as informational signage, as seen below, along the project’s corridor. This project has been in partnership with Lake County, Little Calumet River Basin Commission, Franciscan Alliance, Lake County Surveyor’s, as well as the Lake Michigan Coastal Grant. We are very happy with the results and have been recognized for the storm water efforts by America in Bloom, ______________and _______________.
