The speed limit on Calumet Avenue in the Town of Dyer will be lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph from Main Street to US Rt. 30. This area has seen an increase in commercial development as well as an expansion of activity at Central Park. The new reduced speed limit of 35 mph is consistent with the posted speed limit for the contiguous portion of Calumet Avenue to the north. This decision was made for the safety of drivers and pedestrians within the town and was made in a collaborative effort with engineers, public safety officials and the Town of Dyer.
Notices will be posted beginning on September 13th warning drivers of the reduced speed limit and will continue through the weekend. Beginning September 20th, the new reduced speed limit of 35 mph will be enforced.
