Northgate Park Pathway

Start Date: 6/1/2007 Complete Date: 11/1/2007 Responsible:

Full Description
The Dyer parks and recreation department is proud to announce that the new accessible pathway at Northgate Park is now complete. This $76,000 pathway improvement was constructed using about 2/3 of the amount from the park bond issue (of 2006) and the other 1/3 from the 2006 Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The pathway has been provided in response to the desire from the community for more walking and fitness related areas in the parks as well as to improve accessibility to various sections of the park. The loop portion of the pathway is approximately ½ mile and provides access from the parking areas as well as from the entrance from the neighborhood north of the park on 206th Place. Parks and recreation director, Mark Heintz stated, “We are pleased to construct a park improvement that will improve accessibility to areas of the park which also has the dual purpose of a pathway that will bring the community together for their fitness and recreational needs, ultimately improving the quality of life in Dyer.” Motorized vehicles are prohibited on the pathway which was designed for fitness related activities and accessibility at Northgate Park. The pathway is free and open during park hours of dawn to dusk. Northgate Park is located along Calumet Avenue, three blocks south of Main Street.
