Town of Dyer - Fire Department Description
Fire Department

Description

Dyer Volunteer Fire Department Inc. proudly protects 20000 people living in an area of 6.2 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose 35 members are on a paid on call status. We provide fire, medical and rescue service.

The Dyer Fire Department was organized in 1915. We started off with a two wheeled hose cart which was purchased for $55.00. It was designed to hold 100 ft. of hose and it took four or five men to pull it. We still have the hose cart displayed in the Dyer Historical Societyl. We have come a long ways since 1915, we have 15 pieces of equipment from a 105 ft. Aerial Tower to light and heavy rescue trucks to two 1500 G.P.M. pumpers, and we also have our 1939 Seagraves Pumper restored to it's original condition.
